The ketogenic (or “keto”) diet involves eating foods high in fats but low in carbohydrates such as eggs, nuts, berries and greens. Following such a plan has become quite fashionable globally today; followers will discover no shortage of books, recipe websites and keto-specific beverages on offer in stores worldwide.

How Does Keto Eating Plan Work? By restricting carb consumption, the keto diet allows your body to move into ketosis; an environment in which fat instead of carbs is burned for energy production. Once in ketosis, burning fat produces by-products known as ketones that allow energy production without using as many resources (carbs).

Ketones can provide energy when carb stores run low; thus leading to fat reduction and weight reduction.

Due to the difficulties inherent to staying in ketosis (since your body craves carbohydrates for energy), people frequently switch back and forth between keto and their previous eating patterns, sometimes abruptly returning. Some opt for non-strict keto diets with limited carbohydrates and sweets ingestion; Keto followers may add certain ketone supplements like Ketone Drinks to assist them when willpower alone fails them in remaining in ketosis.

Are Ketone Drinks Regulated? Ketone drinks are currently unregulated commercially. One Can Find Two Types of Ketones
In today’s market, two predominant varieties of ketones exist:

Ketone esters are among the strongest of ketone supplements and will keep your body in ketosis longer than any other. A popular brand is H.V.M.N Ketone Ester; three packs cost $99. Additionally, their powerful taste may require you to mix in another drink or food chaser in order to improve consumption of this supplement.
Ketone salts come in drink form. Producers commonly incorporate electrolytes – to combat any dehydration from lacking water-dense meals on your keto diet plan – along with potassium and calcium for enhanced nutritional content. Ketone salt drinks may put your body into ketosis faster, yet its effect doesn’t last as long.
What the Research Suggests
There has been much interest amongst researchers regarding ketosis due to various compelling and noticeable weight reduction studies; researchers have investigated both ketoone esters and salts.

Researchers conducted an October 2017 Frontiers in Physiology study on ketones to understand their effect on metabolism, employing 15 volunteers who consumed drinks containing either keton esters or salts as sources for exogenous ketones and obtained ketosis with either source, leading them to conclude “exogenous ketone drinks are an efficient, practical approach for inducing ketosis”.

This study, however, involved only a selected population.

Cell Metabolism published an investigation in July 2016 where researchers gave elite cyclists ketones esters at rest and 45 minutes into biking exercise; separate carb and fat rich drinks were given separately to two other groups so as to assess all three teams more thoroughly.

Outcomes showed that elite cyclists who consumed ketone beverages cycled approximately 400 meters further than either team in this experiment, which wasn’t an overwhelming increase but nonetheless represented an improvement.

Researchers conducting a 2016 Cell Metabolism research paper also reveal ketones can assist endurance athletes in three ways, providing energy during exercises; improving athletic efficiency by approximately two percent; and decreasing levels of lactic acid.

However, not all research reaches the same conclusions. A second October 2017 Frontiers in Physiology study discovered contrasting results: athletes actually performed worse after drinking ketone drinks such as H.V.M.N beverages like in other similar studies.

In this study, 11 elite cyclists consumed a ketones supplement before training. While their bodies did eventually reach ketosis, their pace of attainment was two percent slower compared with cyclists that didn’t consume anything beforehand. Furthermore, top cyclists experienced digestive discomfort like acid reflux disorder and nausea; one even left due to dizziness and vomiting!

Again, the study involved only a limited sample and more research may be required in order to attain results that will apply across an expanded population.

Precautions
Consuming ketones drinks could result in any of the following, so it is wise to consult a healthcare practitioner prior to beginning any kind of weight-loss program with keto.

Gastrointestinal issues, including digestion and abdomen related conditions.
Electrolyte imbalances from certain ketones drinks that contain extra electrolytes. For best results it is advised that one drink plenty of water while following a keto weight loss program to avoid dehydration or risk dehydration.
Hypertension
Lack of carbs for power could be to blame for our weakness and lethargy.
Overall Results
Studies demonstrate that ketones beverages may enhance a keto weight loss plan effectively; however, be wary when selecting brands as there may be associated gastrointestinal discomfort and dehydration risks.
